Titus 2:4-5
That they may teach the young women to be sober, to
love their husbands, to love their children,
To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own
husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
What
is a young womans duty?
Here
in Titus 2, the Bible shows us some good character qualities we might strive to
posses. I realize this passage is talking about a married young woman but we
could also take it and apply it to unmarried ones. I am going to take and use
parents instead of husband right here because my parents are my authority right
now! =)
Here
are some things to think about for young women:
1.
Be sober
2.
Love my authority(parents)
3.
Love children/younger siblings
4.
Be discreet
5.
Be chaste
6.
Learn to be a good housekeeper
7.
Be good
8.
Obey my authority(parents right now)
9.
Obey GODs word, the Bible
#1. Be sober
According
to Websters dictionary, sober is not wild, visionary or heated with passion;
having the regular exercise of cool dispassionate reason; Regular; calm; not
under the influence of passion.
Sobriety
is an important character because we can not always rely on our emotions. Our
flesh will be tempted to let our emotions rule and then satan will try to get
us to do wrong.
1 Peter 5:8-10
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the
devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom
resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are
accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace,
who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have
suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
God
will give us grace to resist our emotional temptations and strengthen us in
stability. Our emotions are not stable!
#2. Love my
authority(right now, my parents)
When
we love someone, we honour them.
Ephesians 6:2-3
Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first
commandment with promise;) That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live
long on the earth.
According
to Websters dictionary, Honour is To revere; to respect.
Respect
and honour does not include questioning our parents judgment. We are to love
and respect their decisions. This does not mean we have to exactly agree but we
do not have to argue our point and dishonor them. Love does not seek to make
someone look or feel bad.
