Young womans duty #2

Last time we saw that a young womans duties include:
#1. Be sober
#2. Love my authority

#3. Love children/ younger siblings

Little children are important. They are most of the time more accepted than older ones. They are loving and depending on people to provide for them.

Matthew 19:13-15

Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence.

Children are a great example of how our relationship with God the Father should be. We should accept his authority without question, we should be teachable and humble as well. We should enjoy being around little children and not think of them as pests. They are a blessing! Don’t despise them!

1 Timothy 4:12

Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

#4. Be discreet

According to Websters dictionary, discreet is Prudent; wise in avoiding errors or evil, and in selecting the best means to accomplish a purpose.

Proverbs 2:11
Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

Proverbs 5:1-2
My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding: That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.

Discretion is the knowledge of things that would be bad to do and the wisdom to not do them. A discreet young woman will stay out of the path of sin. She will follow God and ask him to protect and guide her. She will use wisdom in what she does. A discreet young woman will not deliberately go and sin, she Loves God and wants to follow him!

#5. Be chaste

According to Websters dictionary, chaste is pure from immoral conduct; In language, pure; genuine; uncorrupt; free from barbarous words and phrases.

Proverbs 15:26
The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.

Our speech should be pure as well as our thoughts and actions. If one is not pure, it will lead to the other two becoming unpure.

Titus 1:15
Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.

A young woman needs to strive for purity in all areas of life.

Young womans duty #1

Titus 2:4-5

That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,  To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

What is a young womans duty?

Here in Titus 2, the Bible shows us some good character qualities we might strive to posses. I realize this passage is talking about a married young woman but we could also take it and apply it to unmarried ones. I am going to take and use parents instead of husband right here because my parents are my authority right now! =)

Here are some things to think about for young women:

1. Be sober

2. Love my authority(parents)

3. Love children/younger siblings

4. Be discreet

5. Be chaste

6. Learn to be a good housekeeper

7. Be good

8. Obey my authority(parents right now)

9. Obey GODs word, the Bible

#1. Be sober

According to Websters dictionary, sober is not wild, visionary or heated with passion; having the regular exercise of cool dispassionate reason; Regular; calm; not under the influence of passion.

Sobriety is an important character because we can not always rely on our emotions. Our flesh will be tempted to let our emotions rule and then satan will try to get us to do wrong.

1 Peter 5:8-10

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

God will give us grace to resist our emotional temptations and strengthen us in stability. Our emotions are not stable!

#2. Love my authority(right now, my parents)

When we love someone, we honour them.

Ephesians 6:2-3

Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

According to Websters dictionary, Honour is To revere; to respect.

Respect and honour does not include questioning our parents judgment. We are to love and respect their decisions. This does not mean we have to exactly agree but we do not have to argue our point and dishonor them. Love does not seek to make someone look or feel bad.

Contentment

Contentment.... What is it?

According to Webster’s dictionary, Contentment is a resting or satisfaction of mind without disquiet; gratification.

Gratification is That which affords pleasure; satisfaction; delight.

1 Timothy 6:6-8

But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

The Bible reminds us that we don’t bring anything with us when we die. It all stays here for someone else to find or just to sit and rot and decay away. Im NOT saying it’s a sin to buy yourself something nice when you have the money, but if you don’t have the money we need to be content.

Why do we just HAVE TO HAVE that new pair of shoes even though we have 10 serviceable pairs at home?  Or that shirt even though we have a closetful of them at home?

What about food? Are we content with what we SHOULD eat? Or do we keep eating until we cant fit any more down our throat?

Are we content with our position in life? Or do we spend our time complaining and nagging to try to change where we go on certain days or what church we go to or where we live?

ARE WE CONTENT WHERE GOD PUT US?!?!?!

In Philippians 4, Paul wrote, “...for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.”

Hebrews 13:5 says, “...be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”

Contentment is satisfaction and delight in what you have and not looking at wht others have and coveting.

Covetousness is the opposite of contentment. Covetousness is a strong or inordinate desire of obtaining and possessing some supposed good; usually in a bad sense, and applied to an inordinate desire of wealth or avarice.

Luke 12:15

And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

Once again, the Bible points out that posessions are not important.

Matthew 6:19-21

Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Are we contently laying up treasures in heaven?

Current projects

Hello! (those who care to read my blog. =)
I have been working on a few sewing projects and the one i am working on right now is an inntricate process which is very slow... For some reason, i am loving the colors purple and green right now. =) This is going to be a post of my projects and some random pictures.

This is fabric i made a pair of culottes out of like 2 weeks ago. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! =D

My everyday Bible thoughts and devotions notebook. =)

An envelope my Big sister made me. I love the colors!

Now to my project... Its a green and purple quilted vest. This first step was to cut out all the little squares to sew together. it took a long time...

Both color squares laid out.

All of them sewn together.... This step took me 2 hours and the back looks almost as good as the front! =)

The front.

Pinning the pieces to the fabric... yes, thats only half of it. I sewed more on to cut the other side. At this point, im almost ready to kill nyself if i make a mistake....

PHEW! I dont have to die!

I have cut out all the pieces and am waiting for the opportunity to start sewing the big picture. =) Today, i am going garage saling with my family so it will have to wait.... sad but O.K. =)
